In the traditional image of nativity, we see the baby Jesus in the
manger, with Mary and Joseph by his side, a couple sheep, maybe a
cow, a few shepherds and the three Kings all looking on at baby Jesus.
Have you ever thought that the shepherds and the three kings never
may have met each other - they may have visited the baby at different
times altogether? I never thought about it this way - speaks volumes
about the conditioning an image thrust on you since a long time can
have - its difficult to see beyond.
In the book 'Divine Knowledge' which is a book on Bible study there
was a question which alluded to this fact. The Magi might have come
late - very late - maybe even 2 years later than the birth of the
Lord?
Matthew 2:16 we see the massacre of the innocent children. Herod
ordered to kill children 2 years and younger based on his
conversation with the Magi. So it is indeed possible that the 3 wise
men from the east might have come several months after the birth of
the Lord. Maybe the star appeared at the birth but then travel to
Bethlehem might have accounted for the delay?
Read about these and other facts in the Bible which I found very
interesting in the book 'Divine Knowledge' by Mr. Yesudasan
Nedumoncove. Read a book review here:
