Bible Study Handbook Vol I - A book review.
"Bible Study Handbook Vol I" by Very Rev. Thomas P Mundukuzhy Cor
Episcopa is another valuable offering from achen adding to his already abundant
contributions of books for the faithful in the
English language.
The book touches on the Old and the New Testament containing a lot of
information including many little known snippets of important
pointers regarding the verses in the Bible. The book contains 31
different sections and 16 general topics spread over 168 pages.
The book touches on each book in the Bible, detailing on important
themes and contemplative thoughts behind the book. There are cross
references to parallel thoughts in other parts of the Bible to help
focus on the verses with the context in mind. There is also mention
about the Apocrypha books accepted by the Church, which were not
included in the Protestant Bible.
This book is for the statistically inclined. Seven "I am's" in
John's Gospel, seven parables in one chapter, Seven crowns in the new testament,
number twelve in the Bible, verses pertaining to
jealousy in the Bible, Names of Jehovah in the Old Testament, the
sevens in the Book of Revelations, references about Mark's upper
room, the number of times Iraq is mentioned in the Bible and so much
more such data are included. There is a section of 10 comparisons
made between the first book in the Bible 'Genesis' and the last
book 'Revelations' which I felt was particularly striking.
The book serves as a nice handbook for studying the various parts of
the Bible at a glance, for cross references and cross linking of
historic incidents, miracles and aspects of faith by viewing the
Bible as a whole. For example, it has all the miracles that Lord
Jesus performed all listed at a single place, all the prophecies
about Jesus and their fulfillments listed together, so that we can
study them more easily.
With such a lot of information going into a single book, it is
definitely useful for preparation for Sunday School Quizzes and
questions to test our knowledge about the Bible. The Holy Bible is
the most important source of our faith, and understanding and
studying the Bible is absolutely essential for us Christians. Such
books are useful for systematic Bible study and serve as important
reference sources for more indepth quests.
