Memories - hold onto them

Hold onto your memories. There comes a time when that's all you will
have as your own.

Sweet memories of opening your heart to a friend when you felt lonely; memories of standing up to life's challenges and laughing
back; hilarious memories of fun and laughter that makes life so much lighter, bitter-sweet memories of quarreling, and then making up;
memories of making plans together and laughing over them when they backfired; memories of battles won together, lost together; memories
of secret meetings for planning your teen adventures, old memories of sharing thrilling secrets kept from the watchful eyes and alert
ears of elders, and shared between none but the closest of friends - treasure these memories, revive them and relive them, they are invaluable gifts that are perhaps the only true assets you can
gather as you move on in life.

The memories will inspire you to move ahead, that such days will come again,
even though you know some of them never will. The memories will encourage you to
value life, and make the most of it,
to enrich the present to create more memories, as you realize that the present
will also soon pass into memory lane.

And these memories are yours to keep. Life keeps changing, but
memories remain. The memories will remind you to be thankful for
those tiny moments full of life that you could be part of.

Lives will pass on, loved ones will disappear from sight, you will
hear them no more, relationships you thought were eternal will
suddenly cease to exist, these times will challenge your faith and
sanity, but fond memories of the times spent together with a loving
friend will comfort you and give you peace.

I lost a friend of 20 years in a horrible road accident in Aurangabad
in Maharashtra, India on a highway two days ago. I grew up with him,
went to school with him, played with him, shared all kinds of
secrets, quarreled, made promises about life with him; in so many
ways, experienced life with him and hoped to continue so for many
more years, and suddenly he is taken away in such a cruel way! The
truth is yet to really sink in.

You hear about death everyday. You know of it always lurking in the
corner as you live your life. You know that all will meet death one
day. It is an inevitable appointment all have to keep. You know all
this, yet when death actually strikes a beloved one, you realize
the pain is much more than you ever were prepared to bear! And in the
case of my friend, I never imagined that someone from our circle will
be called away so soon.

Hold onto your memories. There comes a time, when you least expect
it, when that's all you will have as your own.

And yes, my friend was not a Christian, yet I pray for his soul, and
I have faith in the Lord I trust, that my prayers will not go
unanswered.
