Seeing that this topic is attracting a lot of interest, I did some
little research on the internet about the committees in other
Orthodox Churches. You can go through the following links I found and
make your own conclusions. My inference is - other Orthodox Churches
do have female members as office bearers, I think the real question
to be asked is - Is our society ready to accept our women folk as
office bearers? - if it is, then the Church will have no problem in
this matter (that is the message I get from the decision of the Holy Episcopal
Synod, that is why I see it as a positive step rather than an "insincere" or
"backward" step as referred to in some of the postings here, I actually admire
the restraint shown by our Holy Fathers in this regard exposing themselves to
such questions as seen on this forum).
If other Orthodox societies do not have a problem, I do
not think confusing this matter with theological nuances will hold
for long.
Our Sabha case throws up a unique challenge for us though.
