Did Jesus call the cannanite " a dog

I have read that Mar Ephrem (the saint who has given us so many
wonderful hymns) was very much influenced by the Cananite woman's
faith. He used to think of himself as the dog, trying to gather
crumbs falling from the Lord's table -- this gave the great saint
the blessing of "humility" to grow in the Lord, fight temptations,
and reach the high pedestal of sainthood he has reached today.
I would like to think that this was precisely the reason Jesus
called the woman a "dog" -- to leave us an example of the power of
persistence in faith. He took on the Role of the "insulter" to show
us the true worth of practising humility -- the Cananite woman saw
clearly the gap between herself and the Lord and hence had no
problem in confronting the Lord when He (seemingly) was backing away
from granting her request -- thus she passed her test -- and what a
glorious reward she received!!! Praise the Lord.
Many times our hollow pride blinds us from seeing the Truth of the
gap between the Holy Master and the sinful us --
Lord make me that dog - who had the fortune to eat the crumbs falling
from your table.
