But God did not listen -
========================
She cried all night, she prayed all night - but Sunu died anyway.
Looking back, one could say, in the state that Sunu was, everyone
would have seen it coming, but I know that they did not expect it.
Sunu's death was a rude surprise, a cruel joke to this family. Why?
Because they trusted in the Lord. That mother, I know she would have
cried and prayed each night Sunu was in hospital to our Lord to make
Sunu well. That father, there was probably no prayer group in town
and beyond that he did not attend to beg to the Lord to spare
Sunu's life. I could see that Sunu's brother had grown in faith in
the Lord and his words that Sunu would soon be well, would boost the
confidence of the rest in the family. I know many people including
Achens, Thirumenis, and many beloved elders had shed tears pleading
with God for Sunu's life.
But Sunu died anyway. Our Healer did not heal Him. He could have,
had He so willed, but He did not. Why? I do not know.
There are many who will sigh that Sunu perhaps was suffering because
of sins in the family. There are others who will say that - had the
family been "born again" he could have been healed. Most will think
about it for some time, be sad, then move on, contending that it is
fate. One thing I do know. Sunu was flesh and blood till three week
ago. He will now live in our memories. The faith will keep him alive.
If there is indeed a God whom we worship, if He cares for us like we
have grown to believe, He will now take care of Sunumon, since Sunu
is His son first. If there is no such God, then - O church, you have
a lost cause. I realise that these are times when the very
foundations of faith can get shattered. Pray to the Lord to grant
strength to the family.
How trivial are many issues like thrones, committee quarrels,
diocesian squabbles etc when one comes face to face with such bitter
realities of life.
