Workers needed, rather than Speakers!

I do not agree that we need to lay undue stress on "reviving the art
of oration" in our church. We have good gifted speakers in our
church and the Holy Spirit will provide enough as and when it is
needed.

I would not like my church to be trampled upon by the gimmicks of
the "great speakers" and "spirit movers" we see on TV today. The
more they speak, the more I feel they are hollow.

In my home in India, comes the gospel series by Dinakaran every
Sunday early morning on TV. The program - having elaborate prayers
and sermons - often shows with great detail people getting healed
while watching the show. I could never come to terms with this
concept. So I wrote once to Dinakaran - "your programs are always
pre recorded, they are never live performances, so when you say
people get healed on seeing the show on Sunday morning - how do you
account for the time gap between your prayer (when you record the
show) and when the program is actually telecast (on Sunday morning).
When do you say the power of the Holy Spirit works, when you prayed
while recording?, or when the your prayer on recorded film was
shown on TV? How do you explain the state of that power during the
time gap? You are praying for the Holy Spirit to come down on a
person who is ill (whom you seemingly already know) "watching you pray" - you
even call him\her by name at times - but the Holy Spirit does not
respond at that time --- then when the film is played at the studio -
-your prayer comes alive, the person is seemingly watching the show,
and the Holy Spirit works, acting upon your prayer delivered a few
days ago - healing the person?" (well, I used better words in my
mail)

I got a reply from Dinakaran (or one of his staff) that went
something like - God has planned every bit of the happenings long
before the creation of the universe - Needless to add, I still have
not figured out the magic! (I admire Dinakaran for his work, but
this one question still remains unanswered for me, making me feel
his whole setup has something fishy, also the ads about prayer staff
conducting prayers over phones and other ads to buy books,
cassettes - all give it a commercial look - perhaps all only because
of my biases! ) I am not denying that the Holy Spirit cannot really work in
this manner, using the modern technology of television. But I am upset by the
way the Dinakaran's team makes it all look. I would have been much happier if
the Dinakaran team once admitted on screen that the program is pre-recorded,
inspite of which the power of the Spirit is amazingly working using this modern
technology (if it is indeed true!)but no, it is always portrayed as though it
all is happening then and there - (on Sunday morning) - and most innocent
people dont see through this too, when they are blown over by the "amazing
power" and the phone number on the screen draws them in, thus encouraging more
of such seemingly dubious acts.

Anyways, I feel, more than eloquent speakers, our church needs
workers. If a person can work sincerely for God, his works will
speak much more than his words. I personally do not feel the need
for any sermon during a Qurbana, because the Qurbana itself is much
more fulfilling than any sermon any one can ever attempt to deliver.
If we have a leader, whom we see works sincerely, we will begin to
trust him, and work with him. Words hold not much significance here,
as the work speaks volumes! And I feel such sincere workers are fast
becoming endangered species in our church. So perhaps we need more
workers, rather than speakers.

Going to listen to a emotionally moving Convention is good, but
spending time working for a good cause for Christ even without
uttering a word is perhaps more satisfying and fulfilling.(even
though I am a sinner and in my current situation, I am sadly not
finding time for either)
