Jesus/Pharisees/Healing - Some thoughts

Dear Readers,

Sharing some unfiltered thoughts hoping it may be useful somehow,
somewhere. Please correct any mistakes and develop on it, if found worthwhile.

The poor Pharisees are often cited as examples for "how not to
behave" lessons, here's one more to the list..

Note Luke 6:7
=============
The Pharisees did not "wonder" and were not "amazed" that Jesus
healed.
They followed Jesus to find fault in his "timing" of healing - to
see whether He healed on the Sabbath.
That He could really heal was never really doubted, they knew for
sure that He could. Jesus had by then
passed their scrutiny long enough to assure them that He could
indeed heal.

I was wondering how could they find fault with a man whom they knew
without an iota of doubt that was gifted with the Divine gift of
Healing. Why were they not simply overwhelmed by his miracles of
healing?? Perhaps the reason was that Jesus was not the first person
in Israel who could heal. We know for sure that others like Prophet
Elijah had powers to heal. Yet perhaps they also believed that all
healing did not come from God. For instance, it could be that the
magicians and other so called "wonder workers" during the time also
could do similar things. We read about the magicians in Pharoah's
court who competed with the miracles of Moses. That must have been
the reason why the Pharisees were not amazed by Jesus.

The Pharisees were known for the strict observances of the Law and
worshipped the God of the Most High. Yet they failed to be amazed
when Jesus was among them. The reason also could be their ego. How
could this (mere) carpenter's son do such things?? If He was a High
Priest's son we could have considered him.

Due to such reasons, they failed to see God. Their knowledge
prevented them from seeing God. Their pride prevented them from
seeing God.

And using all these, our all knowing Creator carved out the Way of
Salvation for us at Calvary. Praise the Lord!
Yet what a great oversight and misjudgement by the Pharisees!!

We often take pride in saying that we are "Orthodox Christians". We
often exhibit deep understanding of the Bible, Church and theology.
May our knowledge, pride and ego not prevent us from making the same
mistake the Pharisees made centuries ago.
